What can I do with an old ring that has sentimental value?

One of our members came in with old jewelry to sell, including a ring that had to be at least 100 years old! The ring was bady worn. The bottom of the shank was bent, which allowed a stone to fall out of its setting, but she clearly had a strong attachment to this ring. We recognized that the ring had sentimental value for her, so we recommend that she take some of the gold that she brought in to sell and have us melt it down to build up and repair the ring that she loved. She left with a reconditioned ring, and money in her pocket from the gold that she sold. We love a happy ending like this.
